What types of Intelligence?
You have been accepted as a member of the Incite Network because you are knowledgeable about information security topics and have opinions you want to share. So we give great leeway and show significant trust in our members to bring forward interesting topics.
The best rule of thumb is “if it’s bothering you, it’s probably bothering other people too.” So share those thoughts and start a dialog. There are no stupid questions or observations.

As a general rule, always ask the question. That’s much easier than wasting time and money, when someone else has solved the exact same problem.
The best rule of thumb is “if it’s bothering you, it’s probably bothering other people too.” So share those thoughts and start a dialog. There are no stupid questions or observations.
To get you thinking, here are a few topics that we find of interest:
- New threats – If you become aware of a new attack vector, share that with the community. We are not trying to beat SecurityFocus and iDefense at the game of reporting vulnerabilities, but making the community at large aware of these issues with some analytical value add (you need to worry about this, here’s how to protect against it, etc.) is a good thing.
- Vendor feedback – Some vendors do a good job, some not so much. Before you pull the trigger on a pretty significant (and mostly likely expensive) purchase, why don’t you ping the Incite Network and see if anyone has had particularly good (or bad) experiences. It’s pretty unlikely that you are the first person to try something, so see what you can learn from others.
- Interesting uses of security products – Historically, we’ve seen great levels of innovation come from the user community, who take vendor products and use them in innovative ways to solve challenging problems. If there is something you’re doing that you think is cool, share it with the crowd. We’ll make sure you receive full attribution (if that is of interest to you), and we’ll be one step closer to making the Internet a safer place.
- If you’re stumped – Sometimes it’s a hassle, but you’re human. There will be times where you will be tapped out of ideas. Submit a question to the community and see if someone else has solved a problem like yours. Again, we are not trying to compete with Slashdot here or any of the other technical message boards, but we can provide a forum for more architectural and trend oriented issues.
As a general rule, always ask the question. That’s much easier than wasting time and money, when someone else has solved the exact same problem.
