Coming Soon: The Pragmatic CSO

As I mentioned this morning, today is a special day for Security Incite. After almost a year of finding my "sea legs" by getting back in the research game and building an audience - it's now time to take my research and advisory to the next level. To do this, I'm writing a book called The Pragmatic CSO: 12 Steps to Becoming a Security Master. The book will be available on January 2. I've put up a teaser website at http://www.pragmaticcso.com to provide a bit more detail on the project.

Why am I doing this? Because a lot of the folks I talk to every day are in pain. They appreciate the daily information I provide because it keeps them current, but many still struggle with how to get beyond the tactical mayhem of fighting fires. These folks need help in defining and executing on a security PROGRAM that allows them to both act strategically and also show the value to the folks that hold the purse strings.

So far, I've gotten great feedback from the folks I've shown the methodology, so I'm very confident that it'll work for companies both large and small. Folks that have budget and those that don't. Basically, anyone that does security will benefit from the book, and that is getting me fired up.

But that's not all. On January 2, I'll also be launching the web-based Pragmatic CSO community, which will provide value-added templates and forums to help security professionals implement the Pragmatic CSO methodology.

I'm not done yet. The Pragmatic CSO methodology will also serve as the basis of a number of training and coaching programs that will be introduced towards the end of Q1 2007. Ranging from 1 hour complimentary overviews to an 8-week online workshop, readers that need a bit more help in implementing the process will be able to get that.

It's taken me about 10 months to figure out what the market really needs, and this is it. So I'm really excited to be writing the book and working with many of you to adopt the Pragmatic CSO process in your environment.
