Is resistance futile?

Since my mantra is "Big is the new small," some would be led to believe that I don't see a lot of opportunity for smaller start-ups. Nothing could be further than the truth. You see the same thing, but on a bigger scale with Google. It seems that folks are more likely to roll over when Google enters a market, rather than differentiate and fight.

Sort of like how the PGA rolls over when Tiger Woods is close to the lead on a Sunday.

But 37 Signals is different. This post shows they are not scared and understand where their value is. They focus on innovating by being different. By being smaller. By focusing on what customers need, not long feature lists.

I don't think smaller is better in the security space, but different is required. Smaller vendors are not going to beat Cisco, Symantec or McAfee at their own game. But these folks can fill the gaps. As long as they don't get greedy can find a home in one of the bigger players when a market materializes.
